In reply to the request copied below, I am sending my reply to the whole
group, just in case other members would like the same information.
Winding Up, a history of the Birley East Colliery, was written by Alan
Rowles, who also published it in 1992 [ISBN O 903666 61 8].
His address given in the book is;
98, School Road,
Wales Bar, Sheffield,
S31 8QJ
However, I do not know if he still lives at this address. If he doesn't,
then I suggest trying to make contact with the staff of the Library in
which the exhibition of mining in the Woodhouse area was held. I believe
that it was the Library staff who I bought my copy of the book from.
The Woodhouse Library is on Tannery Street, in Woodhouse, near Sheffield.
Also, this book was published with the assistance of ;
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council,
Department of Libraries, Museums and Arts,
Central Library and Arts Centre,
Walker Place,
Rotherham,
S65 1JH
Incidentally, I found the grave headstone of my gt. uncle Bill in the
Beighton cemetery, which gave me sufficient detail of the date of the
accident which killed him, and which will make a microfilm search of
local newspapers that much easier.
