George Baker Keeling joined the Severn & Wye in 1847 as clerk, secretary
and engineer.
George William Keeling was previously connected through his engineering
work with Thomas Blackwell of Bristol, at least since 1854. In 1857 at the
age of 18 GWK became Inspector of Works on the conversion of the Severn &
Wye tramroad to a railway.
As far as I know there is no connection with coal mining although there is
obviously a Bristol area link.
When GW Keeling retired he lived in Cheltenham.
Three volumes of Severn & Wye published so far, all contain many coal and
iron mining references, photographs etc.
