Hello List
Following what appears to be a quiet period I thought I would liven things
up a bit by asking a (possibly) controversial question.
It appears from hearsay evidence only, that my relative Arthur Clifford,
whilst Superintendent at the Forest of Dean Mines Rescue Service (early
1900's to 1950 ish), held potholers and cavers in a degree of contempt. I
understand that he would never refuse help if requested but had some
scathing comments when discussing such rescues.
Personally I have no opinion either way suffice to say that I consider
potholers to be either extremely brave or monumentally stupid (said with
tongue firmly in cheek - honest, please do not take offence)
Is/was this conflict just hearsay or has anyone else come across this sort
of comment? Any mines rescue personnel out there with a view??
Regards
Phil Clifford
