I'm currently reading Larry Lankton's "Cradle to Grave: Life,
Work, and Death at the Lake Superior Copper Mines"
published 1991 New York; Oxford University Press; ISBN
019506239 about the copper mines on Michigan's Keeweenaw
Peninsula. Pages 33-35 describe man-engines erected
by several Keeweenaw copper mines in the 1860's. The man-engine at
the Quincy mine ran until 1895, when the main shaft was
4000 feet deep.
I'm looking for information about the ships that carried ore to
Swansea, either for sale or for smelting. A websearch on
Swansea didn't bring up much info. Can anyone refer me
to Websites or any other contacts?
Thanks for any help.
Kathleen.
