"Metallurgy" is defined (among other things) as the technique or science of
working or heating metals to give them a desired shape or quality; thus,
early man, maybe 8,000 or 10,000 (eight or ten thousand) years ago, or so,
when he found native copper and then hammered it with a stone, reshaped it
and changed its quality, and that would have been the earliest use of
metallurgy. Where? Maybe in the Middle East, in Turkey, in Iran, or
thereabouts. We do not know. In the Americas, this same process may have
taken place around 500 BC, in Bolivia or Peru. Best. Helmut Waszkis
