A couple of months ago a request for information on mining in Sardinia was
posted to this list. In following up that request some information has
turned up regarding a new mining related museum on Sardinia.
In July 1998, UNESCO sponsored the establishment of the Geomineralogical,
Historical and Environmental Park of Sardinia, declaring it the first in a
network of such parks. The Sardinian 'Geopark' is apparently based on seven
abandoned mine sites which will be 'valorised', i.e. interpreted for public
access.
For those interested in visiting the geopark should contact EMSA (Ente
Minerario Sardo) di Cagliari via 29 novembre, 41 - 09123 Cagliari Italia

If any list members do visit Sardinia, feedback would be appreciated.
