We have just completed inputting the 1928 HMSO List of Abandoned Mines in
Cumberland to a Microsoft Access database. I have put this on our website
(www.haigpit.com) as a .MDB file for now, although we are hoping to be able
to later store it as a searchable database (as soon as I learn about CGI
scripts) for people who do not have Access.
It will be invaluable to us to be able to search such things as "all the
mines that worked the Bannock Band" or "all the mines associated with
Greysouthern".
Of the 900 entries, the coal mines of West Cumbria are by far the most
common, but lead mines at Nenthead and Garrigill are also listed.
We have not included all of the map references, as for large sites, they can
fill half a page. If these are needed for any mine site, please contact
Julie at [log in to unmask]
Many Thanks
John Greasley
