I recently came across an argument about the earliest date that steel arches
were used as support in roadways(in coal mines). One protagonist claims that
the earliest date is 1928 but the other, who I know, believes it was
earlier.Since
I was told about this whilst showing him a photo of a drift supported by
steel
arch and taken in 1924,it's clear who is right. But,when did they come into
regular
service? That, gentlemen and ladies is your mission, should you decide to
accept it.
Also,re. Anthony Burton,he is a respected Industrial
Archaeologist,Programme
presenter of two decades past and author of several Ind. Arch. books, some of
a
type which might be called 'Coffee Table'.He might be remembered as one who
made a valiant attempt to draw attention to the state of our industrial
heritage
at a time when the Smash it,Crush it,Destroy it for ever, you'd be better off
watching
eastenders(sic) brigade were on the up.As for praise from the
Tripeune, that's a bit like the recent support for the fuel protesters from
the Daily Torygragh-a fine example
of a convoluted(lack of)logic,
