There was a small exhibition recently, held in the village library at
Woodhouse near Sheffield.
The exhibition was entitled, "Mining in the Woodhouse area, but in fact
was mainly concerned with coal mining in the Birley East Colliery.
I have a book, by Alan Rowles [1992] "Winding Up" which also deals with
the history of this coal mine.
My great uncle William Anthony was killed by a roof fall circa1938, but
although various other fatal accidents were mentioned in the exhibition,
and in the book, this one was not.
I know that this accident definitely happened because my father was
working here on the same shift, and it was he who had to break the news
to Williams parents, but all that my father recalls is that he was about
22 years old at the time and he was born in 1916.
Does anyone have anything that might relate to this incident.

David Arthur, rejoining group after a long period of illness.
