Dear Jean
The late John Martin and the late Denys Wildridge both looked into the
mining of Silca in the Wythop area and its possible production into
Silca bricks.
Denys wrote two short articles for the Cumbria Industrial History
Society Bulletin which were published in volumes no 20 and 21.
Denys papers were left to the society after his death and there is a
file containing extracts from various archives and letters on the
subject.
From a quick read through them it would appear that although there was
numerous attempts to get various companies off the ground to exploit
this resource none of them appear to have come to fruition.
If you would like copies of the articles please let me know.
