Was there a connection between this Tyne Main coal merchanting company,
set up
in London in the 1880s, and Tyne Main Colliery, Gateshead, which
included the
Friar's Goose pit?
(There is a picture of Friar's Goose in Hair's "Views of
Collieries in the Counties of Northumberland & Durham". Its pumping
engine was
erected in 1824 and its operation was later paid for by the owners of Felling,
Walker, Wallsend, Willington & Heaton Collieries to prevent water
passing to
their collieries.)
In 1860, Tyne Main was owned by Messrs Losh & Co.
