Dear All,
Thanks for all the information., website and email addresses, etc.
on Disappearing Guns.
For those who are unsure what these things are, the site
suggested by Philip Carlisle, www.cdsg.org, portrays some good
examples.
Basically they are guns that retract behind a shelter (usually down
into a pit) for reloading, and in effect disappear from the enemy.
The reason for asking was that the site of three such mountings,
built 1888-91, has been recently uncovered at Landguard Fort in
Suffolk. Unfortunately there is nothing left of the guns or mountings
although a tressider magazine store survives.
