I have recently seen a photograph of a group of convalescent soldiers from World
War 1, in formal army invalid dress, accompanied by nurses, in the garden of
what appears to be a detached 3-storey house, one of a row of several in a
(?)suburban street. I know the name of one of the soldiers- 14th Co of London
Regt, London Scottish- but his service records (other rank) have not survived
(recent visit to PRO Kew).
I believe the photo was taken in Britain, county unknown. Under a small
(?wooden) shield with a simply-painted Union Jack, placed above a coach house/
garage door, a small name plate appears, under high magnification, to say
"Duncombe Hill", which I assume to be the name of the house.
Does anyone have any idea how I might identify the WW1 convalescent hospital,
armed only with this information? Suggestions gratefully received.
