Short Course: Multivariate Data Analysis
Dates: 3 - 5 April 2000
Venue: University of Southampton
Presented by Moshe Feder and Nyovani Madise
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Course Objectives
1. To introduce participants to multivariate statistical methods for
analysing survey data.
2. To provide hands-on experience of analysing data using the
statistical package SPSS.
Course Content
This course will include the following topics:
Logistic regression
Introduction to multinomial logistic regression
Principal component analysis
Factor analysis
Discriminant analysis
The course will include computer practicals so that participants can
work through exercises.
Target Audience
The course is aimed at researchers who need to analyse survey
data, especially those in the social, economic, educational and
medical sciences. Participants should already be familiar with
basic statistical theory, inference and multiple regression.
Course Materials
Participants will receive copies of the overhead transparencies.
The Instructors
Moshe Feder is a Lecturer in the Social Statistics Department at
the University of Southampton. He specializes in time series
analysis of survey data and has taught courses on multivariate data
analysis, survey sampling and statistical computing at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Nyovani Madise is the CASS Lecturer in the Social Statistics
Department at the University of Southampton. She specializes in
the statistical analysis of large survey data and has taught courses
on multivariate data analysis and generalized linear models at both
undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Fee
350 pounds Sterling (includes course materials, lunches and
morning and afternoon tea). Because of ESRC support, a number
of bursaries are available which reduce the fee to £75. To qualify
for a bursary, you must be a full-time research student, a UK
