Dear Chiemi,
Thank you for your response. The issue of male midwife is not as
hot a problem here as it is in Japan now. There are so many of
them all over the place in UK. They are also doing a great job. As
time progresses, you will find out that the novelty will wear out in
Japan. Your women and their family members will realise that
what they need is some one who is able to help them achieve
satisfactory outcomes for thier mothers and babies.
Chiemi, all concerned must think in terms of human rights. Those
men who wish to give their services to child bearing families must
not be denied the opportunity to fulfill their life ambition. It is equal
opportunity for all.
In my observation, many women do not really mind now. Some
times culture and religious orientation may make some mothers
request only female professionals, to care for them. In times of
emergencies, when the requested gender of care giver is not
present, the most qualified professional competent to do the job,
does it.
One is sure, that as time progresses, male midwife will not be an
issue in Japan. What the people will be asking for will be quality
care.
Cheers
