Call for Papers - International Medieval Conference - Kalamazoo, Michigan
- May 2001
"The Teaching -- and Performance -- of Medieval Music in Undergraduate,
Graduate, and Interdisciplinary Programs: Innovative Concepts and
Solutions"
This session will present and examine real-life concepts and
solutions to the introduction of medieval music in the undergraduate,
graduate, and interdisciplinary curriculums. Often and indeed frequently
in current teaching, the subject of medieval music is left out, due to a
number of reasons: time constraints and information overload, the pushing
of the concept of "early" music further forward chronologically,
apprehension and perhaps no knowledge by instructor in this area, etc.
This session is looking for 2 or 3 presenters who are willing to share
their innovative approach to informing and educating their students on
medieval music, whether through teaching, performance, or combination of
both. A roundtable/sharing of ideas session will follow the presentation
of papers.
This session is looking for musicologists, music teachers, teachers
in medieval history, and teachers of the arts in higher education, all of
whom have grappled with this problem and come up with innovative
solutions, collaborations between departments, and perhaps even
interdisciplinary colloquiums that deal with this issue.
