FOR EVER GODARD

An International Conference on the Work of Jean-Luc Godard

TATE MODERN

London, 21-24 June 2001

For the last fifty years, Jean-Luc Godard's work in cinema and
video has innovated, provoked, and inspired. Since the completion
of HISTOIRE(S) DU CINEMA in 1998, Godard's name has returned
to the centre of debates about audio-visual art and culture,
especially regarding questions of history, technology, and the
future of cinema. This return provides the perfect opportunity for a
critical reassessment of Godard's entire corpus and its key role in
the history of cinema. Following on from the major retrospective of
the work of Godard and Anne-Marie Mieville at the National Film
Theatre in January-March 2001, this interdisciplinary conference
aims to reconsider and reevaluate Godard's unique artistic
achievement. We would welcome contributions that deal primarily
with Godard and Godard/Mieville's later works, or that propose new
ways of thinking about the earlier writings, films, and videos.
Proposals are invited both from well-established scholars and the
younger generation of critics, whether they are working in film and
television studies, art history, cultural studies, philosophy, music,
literature, or any other discipline. We would also like to see
contributions from practising artists and film-makers and would
therefore actively encourage forms of presentation other than the
traditional academic paper. All questions are open and ready for
debate. The following list of possible topics is suggestive rather
than exhaustive:

Autobiography
The Sacred
History
Love
Art
Sound
Science
Technology
Performance
Collaboration

Please send 400-word proposals BY MONDAY 18th SEPTEMBER
2000 to Dr Michael Witt, Department of Modern Languages,
University of Surrey Roehampton, Roehampton Lane, London
SW15 5PH, UK.

Appel de Communications:

FOR EVER GODARD

Un Colloque International sur l'Oeuvre de Jean-Luc Godard

TATE MODERN

Londres, 21-24 juin 2001

cultural studies, philosophie, musique, litterature, etc.
Voici quelques themes
possibles (purement a titre d'exemple):

Autoportrait
Le Sacre
Histoire
Amour
Art
Son
Science
Technique
Performance
Collaboration

Envoyez votre projet de communication (d'environ 400 mots)
AVANT LE 18 SEPTEMBRE 2000 a Dr Michael Witt, Department
of Modern Languages, University of Surrey Roehampton,
Roehampton Lane, London SW15 5PH, Royaume-Uni.
