(1) Museum Data Processors x 2
Temporary posts - up to 6 months. Salary £12912 Pro-rata.
The Horniman Museum & Gardens is a registered charity funded by the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Its collections illustrate the
world we live in - its visual cultures, music and the natural
environment. The Museum is committed to the creation of a computerized
inventory for its Ethnographic collections and requires two temporary
Data Processors to create computerized records for objects.
The posts will involve inputting data from paper onto a computerized DOS
database (SNAP! for DOS), in accordance with specified documentation
standards for data entry. Training will be provided. Applicants should
be computer literate with experience of using a PC database. A high
standard of typing skills with a minimum speed of 50 wpm and an ability
to learn how to use new software is essential. An educational
qualification in ethnography or experience of working with ethnographic
museum objects would be an advantage but not essential. You must be
available for work between 7 August and 19 January 2001.

(2) Documentation Assistants x 4. Salary £15000 Pro-rata
The Horniman Museum & Gardens is a registered charity funded by the
Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Its collections illustrate the
world we live in - its visual cultures, music and the natural
environment. The Museum requires three full time and one part-time (3
days per week) temporary Documentation Assistants who will be available
to work on the project from 14 August 2000.
The posts will involve locating, physically marking, packing, digitally
photographing and documenting objects using the Museum's collections
management system ( Multi MIMSY), its associated software tools (SNAP!
and ReportSmith) and MS Excel. Applicants should possess a relevant
degree, equivalent qualification or experience of documenting
ethnographic objects, have knowledge of museum documentation standards
and some experience of working with museum objects. PC database
experience and an ability to input data accurately and consistently are
essential. Analogue or digital photography skills would be an
advantage.
