CATALIST FOR WINDOWS RELEASED
***********************************************
The Modes Users Association has just announced the release of Catalist for
Windows. This is cataloguing software aimed at the small museum wishing to
automate its collections and digitise associated images. The program comes
with a comprehensive user manual. Over 50 copies have already been purchased.
MODES FOR WINDOWS UPGRADE
*******************************************
An upgrade to the Modes for Windows software is due to be distributed at the
end of next month (February). This will be the second upgrade since the
program was first released in March 1999. Whilst primarily a bug-fix upgrade
there will be several new features including the ability to play video and
sound files associated with records.
MODES SERVER
*********************
The next major development will be a Modes Server which will have two primary
functions. The first will be to deliver a client-server version of Modes for
Windows for use on a conventional PC network. The second objective will be to
deliver Modes data in XML/HTML format for interaction with a standard web
browser. This will enable the delivery of public access locally and over the
Internet.
The theme of the Annual Modes Users weekend to be held in Devizes at the
beginning of June will be on using Modes data for public access with
demonstrations of how existing users are doing this, and a work in progress
demonstration of the Modes Server to enable users to comment and discuss
requirements.
