Business Information on the Internet
A one day trainig workshop - 27 June 2000
Venue: The British Library, London
Cost: £190 + vat
Business Information on the Internet shows participants how to cut through
the maze of Internet sources and gives them pointers to the essential
retrieval and browsing tools and how to get the best out of them. The
course consists of talks interspersed with guided practical hands-on
sessions. It is aimed at people who have a little experience of using the
Internet. During the practice sessions delegates can try out their own
searches, compare notes on searches tried by several delegates, and also
experiment with a couple of priced internet services (e.g. Dow Jones
Interactive) for which we will have passwords.
Documentation will include:
* a listing of about 150 web sources, with internet addreses and one-line
descriptions
* search tips
* individual search sheets for major search engines (eg Alta Vista, Yahoo!)
* other key points from the talks
The course leader is Sheila Webber, Lecturer, Department of Information
Science, University of Strathclyde. An Internet Commentator of wide
experience, Sheila is responsible for the award winning web site "Business
Information Sources on the Interent", an invaluable starting point for all
researchers.
