Friends and colleages,
I hope I count just about everyone on this list as a colleague, and I think
very nearly all of you as friends as well. So, I hope those whom I do not know
personally will forgive this personal note.
I have just posted the notice of a Near Eastern job in Cambridge University
Library. I hope it will persuade you, if not to apply, to suggest to suitable
acquaintances that they might apply. I can say from experience that Cambridge
has many rewards, and that the collections are well worth working with.
Yes, the job does arise because I am leaving. I am taking early retirement
( a few months short of 60 - cannot quite believe it!) at the end of February
2001. Shortly afterwards we hope to move north to be nearer our families, so
altho' I hope very much I shall see several people before then to say goodbye,
there may not be opportunities to see the friends who only visit Cambridge
occasionally.
I do want very much to say thank you to everyone: Middle East Librarians are
a great group to have been part of, and many of us are aware what a support it
is to be among friends and professional colleagues who react with practical
kindness, and encourage each other, as MELCOM does. I do not sign off
officially until the end of February, but let me say now : "All power to
MELCOM, and very best wishes to all friends for the future".
Yours
Jill
