I would certainly encourage librarians to take the opportunity to respond to
the National Plan consultation. In addition to the leaflets there is also a
National Plan website at www.nhs.uk/nationalplan and a link from NHS Direct
Online at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk Or you can phone your comments to an NHS
Direct call centre on 0845 4647
It's helpful to link comments into the themes of the Modernisation Action
Teams. Those most relevant to libraries are:
Patient Empowerment - consumer health information
Professions - education and training
Performance - clinical governance and evidence based practice

Subject: NATIONAL PLAN FOR THE NEW NHS - LIBRARIES SAVE LIVES
Hello everyone
This affects you! a chance to raise our profile
This week and next week in your NHS organisation there should be briefing
sessions on the National Plan for the new NHS, which are part of a national
communications exercise to seek views of NHS staff and users about how best
to deliver services that reflect and meet the needs and expectations of
modern society. Your views are needed about how best to do it and make it a
reality on the ground.
In adddition to briefing sessions for staff, patients and memmbers of the
public will be invited to complete some questionnaires which invite comment
about their expectations of the modern-day NHS.
There is a very short turnaround time for this as all responses have to be
back at the DoH for 5th June. There is also a National Census Day on 31st
May.
Each member of staff will receive a leaflet(green cover) and members of the
public a leaflet(blue cover) which hoefully will be filled in and returned
to Alan Milburn (lucky man)
The task is to lobby and encourage as many people as you can to respond
saying they need better resourced and improved access to health libraries to
help them improve patient care or words to that effect.
HEALTH LIBRARIES SAVE LIVES. IMPROVE ACCESS FOR MORE EFFECTIVE PATIENT CARE
.
Good luck to those willing to try.
