I just wonder what the ethical/other aspects are of hunting down
recalcitrant borrowers via lis-medical, of which we've had a couple of
recent examples. Maybe we could have a webpage akin to the FBI Most
Wanted! Seriously though with the Data Protection Acts old and new we need
to inform people what the data they give us is going to be used for. In my
library the Registration Form includes the sentence:
"This information will be used solely for the management and business
functions of the Library, and will not be disclosed to a third party
without your express consent."
- where "management and business functions" is loose enough so that we can
pass their details on to Finance if they don't return items (and our
Finance people give a whole new meaning to the word tenacity!), but I'm
not sure that telling the whole of MedLibraryland that X is a transgressor
is quite OK. Or am I just being squeamish?
