Hi, Carolyn,

Freida has listing of residencies by specialty and by location. The URL
for FREIDA is the following:

http://www.ama-assn.org/cgi-bin/freida/freida.cgi

First click on GME Programs and Main Institution Search at the top of the
page. Then, you will have some options to limit your search. There is an
option for pathology.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Kris Hughes

Subject: Ref ?: Guidelines for Pharmacist Counseling

I have a client looking for guidelines for pharmacist counseling that he
thinks
was published by the U.S. Public Health Service a few years ago.

I have looked at the Public Health Service and DHHS web sites, but only
found an Executive Summary of the State pharmacy board's oversight of
State patient counseling laws. Of course it is not dated, no contact
information and no lead if the full document was ever printed. It sound
so familiar however, and things mentioned in the Summary I know I have
read in a more complete document.

I have called the DHHS, who refered me onto the FDA (oh that was
fun....talk about a Catch-22 with being transfered and the endless
recorded options) The FDA was no help what so ever, as I could never get
through to a real person, or to an area to even leave a message.

At any rate, I am still on my quest, but thought I would turn to my
colleagues, the experts, who might recall seeing what I am searching for.
I have a feeling it is right under my nose, but I am missing everything
today.

Any help, suggestions, etc. will be appreciated.....just please don't send
me back to the FDA! : - )

Thanks in advance.

Subject: Thanks with Ref ? Pharmacy patient counseling!

Well, so many responses with so many great suggestions I don't know where
to begin.

So many suggested the ASHP Guidelines, which I had give to my client, but
received a rather "chilly" reception that he was already "well aware" of
these guidelines, and would I just get him what he was asking for!
(Don't you just love those kinds of clients!)

At any rate I looked into some of the OBRA '90 sites, and several other
texts and article that were suggested. One person suggested APhA's Guide
to Patient Counseling that has an OBRA 90 Counseling checklist! (Thanks
Silvia). I was even reminded of the great resources in Bonnie Snow's Drug
Information text, which is right here in front of me, and I forgot to open
it up.....I think my reference skills are going out the window sometimes!

Still nothing specific to US Public Health Service "Guidelines", but I
think with all of the other informtion I received from everyone this will
help with what he is looking for.

At any rate, once again you fine folks have come through as you always do.
Thanks for the assist!

Subject: Follow-up US Public Health Pharmacist Counseling question

First of all I want to thank everyone who responded with web sites,
citations, texts etc. on my question regarding guidelines for
pharmacist-patient counseling from the U.S. Public Health Service.

As I told some of you, my client was very vague with of his information,
and rather rude and abrupt with me when I tried to give him some
answers...an answer that unfortunately did not have the exact guidelines
he was looking for. Almost expected me to be a mind reader.

I finally got him to speak to me a little more, and found out that these
"guidelines" were actually published in conjunction with the Indian Health
Service.

To make a long story short I found several great references about this
training, and actually had a training program (video tape and manuals) on
this exact program that had been done with a grant from Pfizer right on my
library shelf. The manual had just about everything the client wanted,
and led me to further contacts within the Indian Health Service.

Life would be so much easier if clients would just take a few minutes and
answer our questions during the initial request interview. But then that
might lead to the perfect library environment.

At least the end product got the client what he was looking for.

His final response to me? - "It's about time!" (I can't wait for him to
ask another question!)

Thanks again for everyone's help.
