Subject: Physician Web Portals: 5 reviews - e.MD article

Physician Web Portals in e.MD Fall 2000
http://www.edotmd.com/f00/cover.htm

"Not all physician Web portals are created equal. Here's a review of five
leading sites and why they stand out."

Portal - Overall score:

MD Consult ****1/2
Medscape ****1/2
WebMD ****
Doctor's Guide to the Internet ***1/2
Physicians' Online (POL) ***1/2

Plus four additional sites reviewed but found either to be below average
or to concentrate on just one niche.

e.MD is also found inside the Sept 15 2000 Hospital Practice journal;
may appear in Postgraduate Medicine and/or Physician and Sportsmedicine
which are all part of McGraw-Hill Healthcare Information.

Subject: Lecture Notes

A member has addressed the following question to me of which I am not sure
of the correct answer. If you know of sources please email me directly
and if there is interest I will post a summary to the list.

His questions is: I know that there are lectures and slides that you can
download from the internet and use for resident eduction on various
subjects. Could you please advise me how to get them?
Thanks!

Google Rated Top Business Search Engine By The Information Advisor
Newsletter

New York, NY, August 5, 2000--- The Google search engine has come out on
top in a test of its business search capabilities conducted by The
Information Advisor, an international monthly publication for professional
researchers (http://www.informationadvisor.com).

The test, released in the July 2000 issue, was created to determine how
well Google's approach to ranking pages works for business research
queries. Google ranks pages by "popularity" by performing a link
analysis, and assigning a higher ranking to a page that has more pages
linking into it. In addition to Google, other search engines tested were
AltaVista, the new RagingSearch engine introduced by AltaVista to compete
directly with Google, and DirectHit, which also uses popularity to rank
web pages, but utilizes a different methodology.

The test consisted of five typical business research queries-to locate
data on a specific company; find forecast data; obtain sales information
on a product; turn up market share data; and to find trends in an
industry. The search engines were given 0-10 points for each of the first
ten Web sites it returned for each query, based on the relevancy of the
page to the question.

According to Editor Robert Berkman, who conducted the tests and wrote the
evaluations, Google was "the clear and obvious winner", having come in
first in four out of five test business searches.

Google has become a search engine of choice by many Web users, for its
uncanny ability to consistently rank the most useful and relevant sites
the highest on its list. However, this was the first time that it had been
tested specifically on its business search capabilities

The Information Advisor, an international monthly journal founded in 1987,
is a guide for information professionals, who rely on its articles to help
them identify, compare and select the best business sources from the
myriad of information products and services available, whether in print,
on a professional database or on the Web. Readers include business
librarians, information brokers, market researchers, knowledge managers,
competitive intelligence professionals and other hands-on researchers and
information specialists. The July issue is available to non-subscribers
for $20. Contact Ms. Sonia Bedikian at (212) 633-4539 for further
details.

The Information Advisor is published by FIND/SVP, Inc. (FSVP-NASDAQ), the
global business advisory, research and consulting firm ( www.findsvp.com.)
