Thanks to those that responded. Summary of replies below as requested
(reminder of Net Doctor url: http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/):
I used Net Doctor a few months back and found it very helpful. I was
looking for information on a rare-ish childhood complaint for a health
visitor, and although it wasn't listed, I emailed the netdoctor as it
suggested - and got a very nice reply which I found most surprising,
with links to other sources of information. The only downside of the
site was its slowness to download, but the reply I received said they
were trying to rectify that. I haven't looked at the site recently.

I found 'netdoctor' useful when I was looking for information for one
of our non-medical staff members

I would advise you that we use Netdoctor as a daily news service; it
is very informative, showing all healthcare articles from the major
daily papers - it makes very interesting reading and I would
recommend it to other people.

Have found these two addresses/web sites very useful.

Also, a rather belated notification of the publication of the results
of a previous request for opinions (on search engines). It was in the
Lfn Bulletin, 1999, vol 19, issue 3&4, p21-28. (Basically, content as
in http://www.mailbase.ac.uk/lists/lis-medical/1999-11/0028.html). I
included acknowledgment and thanks to the mailing list members who
contributed. Content will now be a bit dated; tho this was how I first
heard about Google which I now use regularly with good results
(http://www.google.com/).
