Press release from the Library Assoc:
ELSPETH HYAMS APPOINTED
EDITOR OF LA RECORD
The Library Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Elspeth
Hyams as the new Editor of The Library Association Record.
?This is an excellent appointment? said Bob McKee, Chief Executive of The
Library Association. ?Elspeth has just the right mix of skills and experience
as well as a thorough understanding of the library and information sector and a
high profile and credibility with the profession.?
Elspeth is currently Director of the Institute of Information Scientists and has
a strong background in journalism and editorial work. ?I am delighted to be
taking on this key role at a crucial stage of planning for unification? she
said. ?The new professional body will need a monthly magazine that caters for
the whole spectrum of library and information services. I look forward to
adding my experience with the Institute to the Association?s existing Record
team.?
David Rigglesford, Chair of IIS Council said: ?While the Institute is sorry to
lose Elspeth?s services as our Director we recognise that she is taking on a
pivotal role in planning for the future. Members of the Institute who are
concerned about a possible loss of focus for information science in the proposed
new association should take heart from this appointment. We wish Elspeth well
and look forward to working with her in her new role.?
