Subject: RE: Library Location
My old library was in a very peripheral location on a hospital site, in a
training centre. Usage levels were very low. I then moved to a new job, in
which I had to establish a new library in a very central spot, near
reception and on the way to the staff refectory. Usage soared! Last October,
owing to new building developments, we had to move upstairs within the same
building, down at the far end of a corridor and away from the 'passing
trade', but in a fairly busy training department. Our usage levels have not
dropped at all, in fact people use the library more for study, as it is
quieter than it was previously.
My guess is that the level of usage you would get in your proposed new
location would depend on the general level of activity around you. If there
are lots of courses and meetings held there you will be OK.

Subject: Library Location
Can anyone give me advice on the following:
Our multidisciplinary library is situated in a very central location in our
hospital, close to the canteen etc.
I have been informed there are plans to move us from the hospital, across a
road, about four hundred yards away from the hospital to a purpose built
medical education centre.
I foresee that our usage will plummet.
Does anyone in the group have experience of a similar situation
or thoughts on the matter?
