Dear fellow DBTextworks user,
Did you read their latest e-mail re: annual maintenance contracts? I
catalogue and lend on DBTextworks version 2.2, and it works fine and
does all I currently want to do. There is no good reason for changing or
upgrading at the moment. However, as I understand it, unless I agree to
upgrade to the latest version and then use quarterly updates, I
a) Cannot have a maintenance contract
b) Cannot upgrade later, except by paying for all the years that I
didn't have an agreement for.
Does this sound reasonable to you - it doesn't to me! I don't want to
upgrade, as why fix something that isn't broken, and why pay money for
extra features that you do not want? Usually, you buy a product, use it
for as long as it suits your needs, and when you want/need to improve on
it, you consider the options - maybe there is antoher product that suits
you better.
It seems to me that Soutron are trying to lock us into an agreement with
them, so that we upgrade whenever they want us to, and we are not really
able to consider other software products, since we have already paid for
Soutron.
I'm planning to write to Soutron, outlining this, and will NOT be paying
for any annual agreement, since it seems like blackmail to me. Any
comments?
Jim
