SHARE THE VISION - meeting the needs of visually impaired users
* London 24 May 2000
* Glasgow 13 June 2000
* Manchester 5 July 2000
All library managers are having to review service delivery in the light of
the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act. Social inclusion is
a main Government objective and features strongly in the Annual Library Plan
guidelines.
This executive briefing is designed to help library and information managers
meet the needs of visually impaired users and non-users. You will have the
opportunity to draw on the expertise and knowledge of the consultants
involved in the Library and Information Commission/ Share The Vision
programme, to achieve the Department of Culture, Media and Sport's aim "to
ensure that blind and visually impaired people benefit in a much wider way
from access to library and reading services".
The REVIEL report clearly demonstrates the need for academic libraries to
address the need of visually impaired students and staff.
The briefing is designed to inform managers about this critical work and
explore where we as providers are today, where we need to be and more
importantly how we intend to get there. How we can contribute to achieving
social inclusion in library services for visually impaired people will also
be covered.
Who should attend?
Those responsible for the planning and provision of library and information
services.
