SLIM - Special Librarians in the Midlands
Visibility = Survival
A workshop on promoting your service
What? What are you promoting?
Why? What is your motivation?
How? Do you have a strategy?
Information professionals working in isolation have one of the most
demanding, but potentially most rewarding roles within an organisation. How
do we continue to provide a high level of relevant and timely service, and
ensure that its value to the organisation is recognised and has a high
profile?
Why, when the pressures on your time have never been greater, and when the
level of expectation is increasing, would anyone want to promote? Should
you be keeping your head below the parapet? Is there a danger of unrealised
expectations resulting from increased awareness? Can you cope?
At the last SLIM gathering we asked whether you were "Ready for a Change?"
We discussed the drivers of, and for, change; how we manage change; and what
skills are required to cope. At this meeting, led by Lyndsay Rees-Jones
(Library Association Professional Adviser, Special Libraries and Information
Services), we can learn to embrace change and turn it to our advantage, to
ensure that we thrive.
This FREE event is co-supported by The Library Association and Information
Unlimited, the Midlands-based information consultancy. The purpose of SLIM
is to encourage special librarians to get together for networking and
professional development. It is open to all special librarians in the
Midlands.
