1. New Workshops

At the end of May and beginning of June we will be running three new
workshops at our Training Suite in Newcastle:

**May 31st - Content Management on the Web: Using XML, Style Sheets,
Metadata and Dynamic HTML**

A number of new developments are at hand which will revolutionise how
web content is created and managed, without the need for expensive
tools or programming expertise. XML is much spoken about, but not
widely understood, and its potential is untapped, along with Style
Sheets in CSS or XSL and the use of Metadata, RDF and dynamic HTML.

This workshop explains and investigates these new developments both in
concept and in practice, providing a basis from which web authors can
start to explore a new era of web content creation and management.

**June 1st - Getting to Grips with FrontPage 2000**

This is a practical workshop for those who are users of the World Wide
Web and would like to use a web publishing tool to create their own
web pages and manage their web site. Whether they have already started
authoring on the web or not they will be able produce a high quality
site without the need for programming skills.

Microsoft FrontPage 2000 offers a range of powerful tools for both web
site creation and content management. These enable both new and
existing web developers to produce sophisticated and professional
looking pages easily and quickly.

**June 2nd - Web Site Management with a MicroSoft Web Server**

As the size and complexity of web sites increase, and users and
authors demand greater functionality and frequently updated content,
effective site management becomes essential. Server technology can
offer sophisticated facilities to ease the site management task and
provide effective tools to support a well managed web site. Server
facilities provided by Microsoft Internet Information Server gives
ordinary developers access to technology that would previously have
required system administration access.

This workshop is aimed at people who provide web content for the
internet or an internal intranet and wish to learn about site
management techniques. The workshop is based on Microsoft IIS4
(Internet Information Server) but the techniques are applicable to
other versions of Microsoft web servers.

For information and bookings forms for these workshops, and any other
Netskills workshops, visit our site at:

http://www.netskills.ac.uk/workshops/forthcoming.html

2. Internet Trainer's Workshop - free places available!

The Internet Trainer's workshop, which is being run in Newcastle on
May 26th, provides the framework and guidelines for participants to
run their own internet training courses. It also provides instruction
on using and modifying Netskills training materials. This practical
workshop is targeted at anyone who already has a training role in
their organisation and who wants to focus on internet training.

Institutions holding a Netskills Gold Scheme licence for training
materials are entitled to one free place on this workshop per year.
The "Netskills Gold Scheme" allows the use of ANY standard Netskills
Training Module throughout the 12 month licence period, INCLUDING NEW
MATERIALS which will be released during the year as they become
available.

So if you are thinking about buying training materials or renewing
your existing licence, now might be the time to do it! For more
information about training materials and the Gold Scheme see our web
site:

3. Netskills speaks on Ecommerce

This week sees the 4th annual ICT works conference in Gateshead, with
this year's theme being "A World of Opportunity". Netskills trainer
Rob Allen took part in the first day, themed "Ecommerce for Business
Users" giving a talk on "Making Ecommerce Secure, a Practical Guide to
Internet Security", in a day sponsored by Telewest Business
Communications, and also featuring talks on legal issues, domain
names, liability, and benefits of ecommerce for SMEs.

4. Success for "The Full Monty" Event

Once again we ran the Netskills "Full Monty" event at the beginning of
April - a four day series of workshops held in Newcastle. It proved to
be a great success, with over 100 people trained, coming from many
different locations - from as near as Sunderland to as far as Senegal!

Some quotes from participants on "The Full Monty" include:

"The 'Full Monty' programme was excellent and contained material which
was relevant and should be of use back at the office"

"...was very professionally delivered and conducted, yet friendly and
informal. Brilliant."

5. Training Module of the Month

**Search Engines and Other Animals**

Much is said about the great value of the internet as an information
resource, yet many people still finding locating quality information a
time-consuming and frustrating task. Many sites exist to help you find
information, but simply knowing which site you should use can be
confusing.

This training module aims to describe some of the major search
services, such as search engines, metasearch engines, directories and
subject gateways. It explains the differences between these types of
service, describes their characteristics and suggests which services
are best for certain types of query.

This module is suitable for anyone wishing to learn how to make
effective use of information-seeking services and tools on the
internet. Participants need no special technical skills and no prior
knowledge of the internet.

**NOTE: This module is also available to licensed users in self-paced
format at no extra cost**
