1. PsycINFO update
------------------
CHEST believes the agreement with APA will be formally concluded in the
next few days. Within the next fortnight CHEST should have concluded, in
association with JISC, the agreement for supply of the data from the
service providers. After open tendering the JCEI selected two suppliers,
namely Ovid and Silver Platter. Details of the price from each of these
will be made known on completion of the Agreements. CHEST cannot advise
on one or the other but it is recommended that no formal commitment is
entered into with either of these until the full detail has been made
known and you have had the opportunity to evaluate based on full
information. In the event that your institution has funding problems
then you can contact the CHEST office and we will do our best to help.
2. Next Wave extension
----------------------
Following negotiations CHEST and Science International are pleased to
announce that an arrangement has been made with MERCK whereby MERCK will
be granting substantial funding for the provision of Next Wave such that
it will continue to be free of charge to Higher and Further Education
Institutions and to CHEST(Ireland) for a further two years.
Until further notice future licensing will be administered by Science
International. Licence forms will continue to be available on the CHEST
Web site at http://www.chest.ac.uk/datasets/nextwave/ but they should be
returned directly to Hazel Crocker at Science International.
3. FT Discovery - request for feedback on new product set
---------------------------------------------------------
As a reminder of the message sent out last week in CHEST Data Messenger
No 171, EduServ (CHEST) would like to reassure Licensed Institutions
that if after a 60 day trial of the new product set, "Executive" they do
not wish to continue with their subscription they will be able to
cancel, as long as they notify CHEST by 31st August 2000.
We would be grateful for any comments about the new product set and an
indication of whether you will wish to continue with the subscription or
whether you will wish to cancel. Emails should be addressed to Emma
Thompson, [log in to unmask] with the subject line Lexis Nexis.
4. Gale products request for feedback
-------------------------------------
CHEST Data Messenger No 1171 (wk/e 23rd June 2000) reminded Institutions
about the discussions between CHEST and the Gale Group for the last six
months about several products and asked for feedback.
Trials are available for the following products and in tandem with this
there was also an offer for reduced pricing, which if enough Sites
decide to take this up will lead to a full agreement between CHEST and
the Gale Group commencing at the start of the academic year on 1st
September 2000.
*Literature Resource Center
*The Times Literary Supplement Centenary Archive
*Biography Resource Center
CHEST would be grateful if Sites that have had trials of any of the
products could please provide detailed feedback to CHEST as soon as
possible. Emails should be addressed to Emma Thompson
[log in to unmask] with the subject line Gale trial.
