UNIVERSITY OF LONDON
PROJECT CATALOGUER (CRA4)
"Mapping the World" is a retrospective conversion project substantially
funded by RSLP, focussing on post-1850 overseas mapping.
Applications are invited for a cataloguer to join the project based at the
University of London Library and Imperial College.
Working as part of a national team, you will be responsible for the
retroconversion of the map library card catalogue to machine readable form
for both sites. You will bring with you previous experience of machine
readable cataloguing using AACR2, MARC and LCSH, and have some familiarity
with the particular issues relating to the cataloguing of maps. Ideally,
you will possess sound keyboarding skills and the knowledge of one or more
European languages, together with previous practical experience of either
the INNOPAC or Unicorn systems or both.
This superannuable appointment will be for a fixed-term period of 18 months
from August 2000 and it is expected that you will spend the first twelve
months with the University Library and the remainder with Imperial College.
In return we can offer you a starting salary within the range of £15,666 -
£17,798 (incl. L.A.), the opportunity to further your cataloguing
experience in an academic library environment, and to make a valuable
contribution to a major national project.
