Just an idea...
You may not be able to stop (legally) mobile phone
messages entering the building but how about
stopping the phone coming in?
They should be detectable at the point of entry to
the library - like a security trigger is
detectable on the way out. So, badger your
security system salesman - if they can come up
with a detector then they'll sell a lot and have
your business forever etc. etc.
Once detected, a phone could be checked in at the
counter (just like guns in Wyatt Earp's Dodge City
saloons :))
Potential problems are:
1. extra work (but no gain without pain)
2. staff losing the phone (insurance should cover
+ include in rules and regs of library)
You could even make use of discarded card
catalogue cabinets to store the phones neatly away
- in alpha order of student!
