Most of the subscription electronic databases and Web resources used by
University libraries are subject to licences that restrict them to academic
use only.
I assume that those libraries that provide enquiry services to industry or
support academic staff doing commercial consultancy will get permission from
the licence holder to use these resources for commercial purposes.
Is this normally straightforward or are some publishers less helpful than
others? What sort of fees do they charge for non-academic use? Can they give
a continuing permission or is it necessary to ask for each use?
