If you're a solo librarian you can't afford to miss:
Management techniques for one person libraries
A two day Library Association workshop on 12 & 13 October, in London
The Solo Librarians Division of the Special Libraries Association (USA)
defines a solo as ' an isolated librarian or information collector/provider
who has no professional peers within the immediate organisation'.
This two-day workshop will provide solo librarians with some techniques and
tips to enable them to thrive in what can often seem to be quite a lonely
position. With new information roles having emerged during the last three
years in, most significantly, knowledge management it is crucial that solo
librarians continue to make an impact on their organisations. Librarians are
solo for a variety of reasons: some are attracted by the responsibility and
job satisfaction, some transfer into these new information roles and some
are left as the sole survivor after a restructuring or downsizing.
All the techniques addressed in this highly participative workshop will most
certainly be relevant to you.
By the end of the two days you will have:
* defined the term 'solo librarian/one person library'
* explored influencing skills
* considered financial management issues
* discussed customer service
* examined time management techniques
* shared ideas on the impact of the information superhighway
* analysed the future of one person librarianship.
Special notes
The issues in this workshop will be explored using a variety of case studies
and exercises. This will allow you to develop your understanding of the
principles involved and will inform your approach in the workplace.
