Apologies for cross posting, and apologies for very late announcement of this
annual event - I ask you to put it down to the demands of a 21st Century public
library on my time!
This year's Cranston Lecture will take place this Friday, 3 November 2000, at
7.30pm, at St Mary Magdalene Church, Chart Lane, Reigate, Surrey, in aid of
the Funds of the Cranston Library.
Speakers and topics are:
Hilary Ely The Revd John Flamsteed (a donor to the Library).
Martin Roth Andrew Cranston's Talking Heads
Audrey Ward John Evelyn's connections with Reigate and the Library.
The Library, founded by the Revd Andrew Cranston in 1701, is situated in a
small chamber above the vestry in St Mary's Church. It lays claim to be the
first public lending library in England.

The tercentenary of the Library falls on 14 March 2001. It will be celebrated in
