I'm forwarding the following message on behalf of Andrew Hunter:

>The current discussion on Scientists and/as Librarians has been
brought to my attention. Leibniz, as a librarian, is discussed by
Paula Findlen in her chapter on 'Scientific Books in the 17th Century'
in the forthcoming fourth edition of Thornton and Tully's Scientific
Books, Libraries and Collectors, which I have edited and which will be
published by Ashgate on 17 March. The emergence of the term
'scientist' is discussed at various points in the book, while Giles
Mandelbrote in his chapter, 'Scientific Books and their owners: a
Survey to 1720' addresses several of the issues raised by Mark
Purcell.
