Although this is a stretch, Benjamin Franklin, among his many endeavors,
could be considered a scientist. He was Librarian of the Libary Company of
Philadelphia for three months in 1733.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was also a scientist, among other things. He was
supervisor of the Ducal Library, Weimar, 1797-1832, and of the Jena
University Library, 1817-1832.
Albrecht von Haller, who was an anatomist, physiologist, botanist, and
physician, was the chief libraian of the Aurich Municipal Library 1735-36.
Baron von Leibnitz Gottfried Wilhelm, philosopher, scientist, and
mathematician, was librarian of the Ducal Library, Hannover, 1676-90, and
Librarian of the Herzog-August-Bibliothek, Wolfenbutter, 1690-1716.
