Dear ILL folk
The original letter which BLDSC sent out in December 1999 says that
BLDSC will be selling forms which can be used for transactions between
libraries. However we don't have anything beyond this very general
statement and what we really need to know is how much will they cost,
and can we accept them as covering the costs of supplying each other.
If some libraries do accept them and some don't we will be in a mess.
Also customers with Billing Accounts have requests supplied by other
libraries charged to their Billing accounts and there is a mechanism
for the supplying library to claim the refund for these requests in the
same way as for requests supplied against BLDSC Forms. Will this still
continue?
I think BLDSC have underestimated the magnitude of this change and
haven't realised just how great an effect it will have on the
day-to-day operation of ILL. It would have been much better had we
been involved first in trying to get the DCMS to see sense, then, if
that failed, in helping BLDSC minimise the effects of this change.
