We too have come across this problem. We chose SwetsNet to host as many of
our electronic journals as possible as we anticipated all the NESLI deal
journals being available through this route.
The one huge drawback we have found is the URL linking. We are having to
maintain two separate A-Z lists of journals - one for on campus use and one
for off campus use by all our students (all our students are off campus!).
The other drawback is that the only URL we can use for our off campus
students is the general SwetsNet site, the students then have to search for
the title they want. We have asked SwetsNet to look into the possibility of
journal URLs which are not IP controlled. If others find this a big issue
perhaps they could also appeal to SwetsNet to find some solution. I'm not
sure how ScienceDirect have done their URLs but the same URL works for on
and off campus users and takes all users direct to the journal homepage.
The implications for cataloguing the titles into our newly purchased LIMS is
something we are just setting our mind too and we too would be interested in
how others are dealing with this.
