We are using SilverLinker from several months ago and it seems to be extremely useful for managing full text access to electronic journals directly from SilverPlatter databases. Since first implementation (about June 2000) we must face with several problems because the records retrieved from a search shown all full text providers. This confused our users because we only have suscription with two of them and when the users chose another (from the list) the full text access was not possible.
This problem have been solved from the new versions of WebSpirs (4.2) and ERL (4.11). These new versions include a SilverLinker module that allow you to specify what providers must appear on the screen (you can select only those you have a suscription with) and what journals really allow the full text access (you select only the e-journals you have suscription with). Therefore the system only show the users the real full text options.
The soft. installation is easy and you can have weekly updates from Quikdata solution.
Finally I must say that the SilverLinker is an interesting advance in the way of integrating database search and retrieval capabilities (bibliographic level) with direct access to the complete information source. The most important is that it works, and final users feel it.
