I would like to remind people about some of the help that is available for chartership candidates. Registration Liason Officers are available to help you with your chartership queries, and a list of officers for your area can be found in the Career Development Group journal, IMPACT, and is also obtainable from Marion Huckle. However, some people may not be aware that there is also an informal network of chartership mentors, designed particularly to help people on Route B. Contact Marion Huckle ([log in to unmask]) to find a mentor in your area or type of library. I would expect a mentor to be happy to read PDR drafts - I am one myself and have done this.

I very much sympathise with the remarks made in the message
below and all the other related messages. I qualified about 12 years
ago but being in 3 posts within the first 2 years played havoc with
my attempts to submit my PDR. I received a lot of vague and
contradictory advice from the LA over many years and almost gave
up in disgust.
I still have not submitted a PDR but I have found Marion Huckle at
the LA ([log in to unmask]) to be helpful and constructive in
my discussions with her. She certainly recommended a thematic
approach, weaving in experience from different organisations as
appropriate but concentrating on the post with the most to offer .
I'm planning on keeping the description of services to an absolute
minimum and putting as much information as possible in the
supporting appendices.
I still don't know how it will all work out and am certainly prepared to
go for the Proforma approach if this seems like the best format.
If possible it would be a good idea to have someone look at your
submission beforehand - would the Registration Liaison Officers be
prepared to do this? Are they in a position to make
recommendations?
I hope to take my tentative efforts to one of the LA Registration
Courses which are being held this year for constructive criticism.
Maybe this time next year we'll all be chartered - you never can tell!
