1. New GP Dispensing Fee-Scale: Effective From 1 April 2000
This announces a new GP dispensing fee-scale effective from 1 April 2000. It also introduces separate fee-scales for dispensing and non-dispensing doctors.
Health Authorities should forward a copy to the chairperson of their Local Medical Committee.

2. Demand Management Advisors Meeting

3. Government Response To The Recommendations Made In The Chief Medical Officer's Expert Group Report "Stem Cell Research: Medical Progress with Responsibility"
The Report provides a clear and detailed assessment of the potential benefits of research across the whole range of possible sources of stem cells, including those derived from human embryos. It also discusses the justification for using embryos created by cell nuclear replacement (the 'therapeutic cloning' technique) for such research and the ethical issues that arise.

This Device Alert was issued on 18 August 2000 to NHS Trust, Health Authority and Primary Care Trust Chief Executives. As usual, it was also faxed to Trust and Health Authority Liaison Officers for immediate action and for onward distribution as specified in the Notice.
