Subject: King's Fund weeded material
*Apologies for cross-posting*
Dear colleagues
We are in the middle of our annual stock-taking closed period, and are
weeding out of our collection a great deal of material now unwanted
under the terms of our collection development policy (specifically, as a
working library for health professionals we do not keep material for its
historic value). In the past we have used Booknet to dispose of this;
this year our former arrangement with LASER to deliver boxes to Booknet
seems to have collapsed (as an aside, if anyone is having similar issues
about this or ILLs via LASER, please email me!).
We need to dispose of a lot of the following material:
* on healthcare systems of other countries
* from the 1970s/1980s on health economics, health systems and health
planning
* duplicates of King's Fund publications and other health policy
material.
If any library would like to have any of this material, you would be
most welcome. Our timetable though is *very* tight: you would need to
come and browse next week (w/c 7 Aug), and take the stuff away (NB we
can't deliver) by the end of that same week. Please email me asap if
you would be interested to come and have a look, or whether you want to
check whether particular topics are likely to feature. And please
forward this to anyone else who might be interested.
Yours, drowning in books, Lynette Cawthra

Jason Long, librarian, Ohio:
'A mother and her two children came in one evening and were looking at
the video collection. The two children began arguing about a movie and
became pretty loud when the mother finally interjected with "Quieten
down! This is a library and people are trying to read the backs of the
videos" '.
