Dear friends
well don't get overly excited about this one but if anyone has any
bright ideas please get back to David or me asap. Please note it only
has to be an *outline* idea at this stage.

OUTLINE BIDS FOR NeLH DEVELOPMENT
PROPOSAL FOR ACTION RESEARCH PROJECTS June - December 2000.
The Information Policy Unit seeks to fund two (or more ) projects that will assist in developing NeLH as a 'joined up' knowledge resource across HE and the local authority sectors.
Funding available : up to £10K for each sector
Timescale: a first report is required by December 2000
Project concept : the successful project will contribute to the development of NeLH and its potential for co-operative activity and sharing information resources across sectors. Projects may be small but must be transferable or scalable. We are looking for projects that have the following characteristics
· Ability to enhance or add to existing or planned knowledge services
· Develop cross-sectoral partnerships
· Bring NeLH/NHSDO to wider user groups
· Illustrate or resolve technical or other issues for NeLH eg authentication
· Are supported by HE or public library partners
· Can offer matched funding
· Include external evaluation
Initialy proposals are sought via Regional Directors of Library Services in the form of an A4 paper giving clear outline details of the proposal and the envisaged outcomes. Proposals linking NeLH and the DNER are particularly welcome as are proposals that link NeLH and the People's Network and/or ICT Learning Centres.
The NeLH Team will draw on external as well as NHS expertise in selecting projects.
At this stage it is envisaged that the projects will be jointly managed by the NeLH Team at the NHS Information Authority and the NHS Library Adviser.
