Hi Graham
We're using MIRON here at LHA to roll out networked databases to PCGs as well as within the HA. If you want to come over to have a play, feel free! Big issue as far as I can see will be the user education issue in relation to primary care. Key thing will be to deliver it in a format that suits Primary Care environment so that will involve outreach work, maybe Web based tutorials etc. If we don't get that bit right it won't be used!
-----------------------------------
Pros.
No IT department involvement, they can't mess it up for you so long as they get the NHSnet connection right.
NHSnet has the potential to be faster than internet delivery because of lower traffic levels (not really noticeable though so may be a little spurious).
Webspirs interface isn't bad (4.1 (JAVA interface), 3.1 is a little less attractive) and allows cross database searching.
-----------------------------------
Cons.
NHSnet access only to MIRON, can't use it from home without an NHSnet card installed on your home machine (OPTONET or OVID might be worth considering to get round this one).
