Interesting news. Nigel Crisp was once Chief Executive of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where the Oxford HXLU was based. Met him once or twice.

Subject: NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE / PERMANENT SECRETARY APPOINTMENT
To: All Staff
From: Chris Kelly, Permanent Secretary
Date: Wednesday, 11 October 2000
I am delighted to tell you that the Prime Minister has approved the
appointment of Nigel Crisp as the new Chief Executive and Permanent
Secretary. I am particularly pleased that Nigel won the post in a strong
field of other applicants, including candidates from the private sector.
In a varied career, Nigel has worked in the public, private and voluntary
sectors, and has worked in the NHS for the past 14 years. He is currently
the London Regional Director of the NHS Executive, and started that post
with a specific brief to merge the two existing London regions, improve
services and develop new approaches to partnership, staffing and delivery.
He will formally take up post on 1 November. He wants to meet as many
people in the Department as possible - probably in small groups drawn from
each branch - in the next few weeks.
