RESEARCH OFFICER (Full or part time)
Small and medium sized firms (SMEs) and regional development.
Part of a collaborative EU programme, this research will study the
innovative capacity of SMEs in a particular industrial sector and their
role in the development of lagging regions. It will investigate SME
interactions with industrial partners, local institutions and regional
bodies to assess sources of innovation and competitiveness. The UK arm of
the work will carried out at Bath under the direction of Eleanor Morgan. The
RO will be responsible for literature reviews, and will have a major role in
designing and carrying out fieldwork with managers and policy makers in two
areas within the South West and South Wales as well as in data analysis and
writing up the findings.
Applicants need a good first degree in Economics, Management or Geography
and an ability to interact with practising managers. Previous research
experience would be an advantage as would some knowledge of SME and
regional/rural development issues.
The apppointment will be either 18 months full time or part time for an
extended period. The salary is in the range £18185-£20,811 pa (under
review) according to experience (pro rata, part time). The closing date for
